“The inherent vice of capitalism is the unequal sharing of blessings; the inherent virtue of socialism is the equal sharing of miseries.”
- Winston Churchill
Socialism as a force is daunting and intoxicating. This sweet, succulent carrot promises an end to injustice and inequality. The reality, however, is that this carrot has a string attached and weakness, obsolescence, and irrelevance are at the other end.
A great example of socialism in action is Europe. At the end of Word War 2, many European nations decided to bite the carrot and employ socialism. Since that time, nations such as Britain, France, Germany, Italy, etc. have grown increasingly socialist and increasingly weak. This is not a condemnation of the rich culture and heritage that all of these nations posses. It simply illustrates the fact, however, that when you penalize entrepreneurship, and creativity you abrogate the spirit and philosophy that must naturally accompany leadership.
So, for the last several generations the capitalistic powerhouse that is the USA has had to do the heavy lifting. We have been the big cop that has had to come in and make sure that the world community is safe. Now this carrot of socialism is being dangled in front of the people and the elected leaders of our own land. Many of our elected officials including the president are very eager to bite this carrot. They have on the “rose colored glasses” that see only the good (which is not truly good) without any of the bad. Socialism is now at work to bribe the last real cop standing between freedom and tyranny.
What will our leaders do? Will they bite this carrot and lead us down the road to irrelevance? Will they pass a health care bill that will laden us with debt and create in us an identity crisis that will surely make us the next Europe? I hope not. Unfortunately, that are thousands of militant Muslims, many pitiful, narcissistic, European elites, and a few petty thug dictators who hope that they will.
